How to Service a Computer

  1. Switch the power off. Remove all the external connections to the cabinet carefully. After removing these external connections clean the ports and connectors, and also check for broken or bent pins.




  1. Now open the cabinet. Uninstall all physical components one by one. Start by removing storage devices (hard disk drive, DVD writer etc.)

  2. Clean various components from dust by using a dry anti-static cloth or cleaner as required. Check for loose connections or broken wires, cables, pins and replace them if needed.

  3. Now come to motherboard, remove the processor fan carefully, below it you shall find a heat sink. Clean the fan thoroughly, you can use wet cloth to do so, then clean the heat sink by placing it in a cup of water.

  4. Wait for heat sink and fan to get dry, when you are sure that it is dry, without a single drop of water, replace it on the processor.

  5. Remove RAM and clean it, with a dry antistatic cloth.

  6. Clean other slots and Sockets and cards inserted into them in same manner.

    Remove dust or any foreign material from corners of cabinet chassis. Dust is the biggest threat to any computer, remove as much dust as you can. You can use air blower for such purposes.

  8. Re install all the components properly and carefully.Check if any screw is missing, replace that and also check if any screw is loose , tighten all screws but don't over tighten them.

  9. Now complete all the external connections and make them tight. Give the power supply to the system and restart the computer.
